Some things are just not sung about enough these days. Sure, moonjunespoon is still a biggie, and since about 1990 moaning, cavetching, and whining has become quite popular with the young set. Also, if you're bi-polar, schizo, or taking industrial meds, - and you kinda sing - you're sure to get media attention. Personally, I find spending years really learning an instrument well, and reading from many disciplines is a good way to become an artist. Singing in tune floats my boat....a beer and a bone ain't bad neither.... In the title song, "Watching The World Go By", of my now, one year old EP, I sing about climate change, species extinction, political untruths, manipulative advertising, magnetic polar shifting (who else sings about that one?...d'ya even know what I'm talkin' about?.... just wait...), spiritual enlightenment, karma and reincarnation. While there are more and more writers addressing some of these subjects, it's still a minority - and they ain't much on the radio... One listener repeatedly called me to tell me also how good it was to dance to this song. So c'mon and dance with me all the way to the armageddon! At the 2006 Austin, Texas SXSW music festival recently, a British bloke named Morrissey, said that there's probably too many people trying to make music professionally these days. Now every home should have a porch or a parlor (wish I had a garage...) where you can sing a song to Aunt Edna, et. al. But to clog up the stages, radio, and media with tripe is just sad. Even sadder is the fact that many in the audiences don't have a clue that it's so mediocre. So if you're 20, have good hair, know how to moan, and have 2 & ½ chords under your belt, you can get reviewed! You can play festivals! You can be an artiste! It also helps if some members of the audience attempt to cause trauma to the blood vessels under their skin from impacting with other audience members. No doubt people used to do that for Franz Liszt... Alright, I suppose all of that qualifies as a bit of me own moaning and cavetching, but hey, I'm just trying to be a bit more au courant. Maybe I'll even get a review! Below are some review quotes from my old 1995 CD.... 'Impressive debut disc - a very cool little album' / 'Promising 8-piece group' / 'Way cool - First rate playing, grooves, and songs' / 'A definite keeper' / 'The music is solid, upbeat, and the vocals are great - One of the best CD's I've reviewed - Everyone should check them out' / 'Excellent production - Recommended' / Good ol' U.S. pop-rock' / 'Real excitement ' / 'A truly original CD' / 'Zan Zone has something to say'. These quotes appeared from 1995 - 1999 in Time And A Word, The Musician's Exchange, Rockline, The Music Paper, The New Review, and Performing Songwriter.
