On The Clearing, Tone repurposes motifs from sci-fi to convey the workings of the mind. He explains: When I allude to space, I am referring to the mind or the imagination. When I mention robots, I am referring to the way human beings are programmed based on conformity to their perception of social norms. Tone showcases his diversity as a solo artist across the albums 14 transgenre tracks, which range from relaxed beats to house infused with the spirit of Chicago, a modern/new jack new thought new age record.
