New York-based guitarist Dave Stryker and saxophonist Steve Slagle have been playing together since 1986 and have collaborated on 14 recordings - the Stryker/Slagle Band, however, is their first co-led CD. Joined by the extraordinary rhythm team of bassist Bill Moring and drummer Tim Horner, Stryker and Slagle have defied the odds by keeping this dynamic ensemble intact for the past seven years. The stunning interplay and synergy that can only result from such a long-term relationship is fully evident throughout this CD. The seven originals included here (four by Slagle, two by Stryker and one by Horner), include bop, blues, early electric Miles, and a couple of pieces that draw heavily upon African and Brazilian musical traditions.
