Sky Coral is the debut release from a new West Coast true psychedelic hero, Sean Smokovich. Recorded at Hyde Street Studio A in San Francisco through the historic Neve 8083 board (sister to Dave Grohl's "Sound City" board). The level of master craft employed in the making of this record would impress any 33rd degree initiate. Sky Coral is a gracefully complex mega face melt. Smokovich is quantum comic, astral crystal wizard, interplanetary jeweler, and alchemical musician. This Crushington State co-founder and alumni is next up in a lineage from Pink Floyd to the Grateful Dead to Phish and beyond. Smokovich brings improvised guitar to cutting edge beats and compositions, every moment evolving into ecstatic melody and harmonic patterns. Timeless from note one, Sky Coral is an double dosed omniversal journey through 12 songs of multiinstrument, electronic, and synth bass inspired gems. Sky Coral evokes a jam band ethos and orchestration that is hard to capture in electronic music. While refreshingly original, this album is born out of the West Coast Electronic Bass scene. Smokovich is a regular at festivals like Symbiosis, Gem & Jam, Firefly Gathering, Burning Man, Northern Nights, and right at home opening for Shpongle at the Crystal Ballroom.
