Carnavas is the debut full-length that turned Silversun Pickups from an LA buzz band into a genuine radio presence, now spread across 2LP.

The Pikul EP had already set the template, guitars buried under fuzz, Brian Aubert's voice rasping somewhere between whisper and howl, a rhythm section that never sits still. Released in 2006, this album doesn't reinvent that formula so much as give it room to breathe, letting the shoegaze haze stretch into full songs rather than sketches. It arrived at exactly the right moment, when the Smashing Pumpkins comparisons everyone reached for were less an insult than a signal that something was actually filling that gap again.

Lazy Eye is still the song people know first, that slow-build structure paying off with a chorus that lands harder each time it repeats. Well Thought Out Twinkles follows the same patient logic with even more menace underneath, Rusted Wheel drags its riff through genuine sludge, and Melatonin opens the record by establishing the whole mood in under five minutes, hypnotic and slightly threatening at once.

Eleven tracks that built a career nobody was betting on at the time. Twenty years later, the fuzz has aged better than most of what surrounded it.
