Scotty Barnhart has quite simply produced a recording in Say It Plain that meets all of the fundamentals of jazz, 4/4 swing, blues, classic ballads and even a touch of Latin rhythm. Barnhart, a Professor of Jazz Trumpet at Florida State University, is now in his 17th year as a featured soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra, and has performed and recorded with an amazing range of musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin. He has also written the definitive book, the World of Jazz Trumpet, with introductions from Clark Terry and the late Freddie Hubbard. Say It Plain is a beautiful collection featuring Barnharts warm and elegant tone and supported by a cast of world-class performers including Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Ellis Marsalis, Marcus Roberts and vocalist Jamie Davis.
