The Sisters of Mercy's 1980s success was defined by their influential gothic rock sound, critical acclaim on independent charts, and the commcercial triumph of their albums. Their success was built on a foundation of dark, atmospheric music, a unique visual aestetic and the persitent drive of frontman Andrew Eldritch which allowed them to transcend internal band conflicts and archieve a cult following and major label deals. The Sisters of Mercy's legecy as a pioneering force in gothic and industrial music continues with their work influencing many subsequent bands. The vinyl album "The Gothic Roots of" features legendary live songs recorded in 1984 and 1985.
