Even though the New Wave of British Heavy Metal was already history by the time Elixir released The Son Of Odin in 1986, the album is still considered one of the best albums of the movement. Elixir started out in London in 1983. In 1985, they released their debut single "Treachery (Ride Like The Wind)," which was endorsed in Kerrang! By none other than Ronnie James Dio in a guest column, spurring the band to tackle their first album. The result was The Son Of Odin. Rave reviews followed almost everywhere, not least in Metal Forces, where Dave Constable stated: "A self-financed LP that eclipses many a major label release." The 40th Anniversary Edition of this immortal classic includes, in addition to the regular album, the complete session from which the "Treachery (Ride Like The Wind)" single was taken, as well as the previous demo and the BBC Friday Rock Show session.
