Parallel Stride is the fourth solo album from Doug Gillard, the Ohio-bred, New York-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Guided by Voices, Nada Surf, Death of Samantha, and Cobra Verde. Long celebrated as one of American indie rock's most distinctive guitarists, Gillard's solo work centers on timeless songwriting values: hook-driven melodies, emotionally resonant lyrics, and finely crafted performances. Across eleven engaging tracks - including "Face Of Smiles," "Yes, She Loves Me," and "Lost Alarmists" - Parallel Stride delivers vivid wordplay and magnetic melodicism, often summed up by the shorthand "Wire backing Paul McCartney." Recorded in the New York City area with co-producers Tom Beaujour and Travis Harrison, the album stands among the most compelling work of Gillard's career.
