Formed in New Haven, Connecticut in 1954, The Nutmegs consisted of lead vocalist Leroy Griffin, first tenor James 'Sonny' Griffin, second tenor James Tyson, baritone Billy Emery and Leroy McNeil on bass vocals. The Nutmegs were one of the first doo-wop groups to become famous for the "rockaballad" style that gave birth to the rock n' roll revolution. During the sixties, acappella practice versions of their songs started a craze for acappella doo-wop recordings. This 14 song compilation provides a comprehensive overview of this highly influential group's recorded output from the late 1950's to the early 1960's. All selections newly re-mastered.
