Seattle's preeminent piano trio, New Stories (pianist Marc Seales, bassist Doug Miller and drummer John Bishop), is back with a tribute to their predecessors and inspirations. Included are compositions by Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock in fresh interpretations filtered through the experiences of the intervening years. Here are also three original compositions growing out of the tradition. Three great saxophonists, Don Lanphere, Hans Teuber and Rick Mandyck, join New Stories singly, in pairs and one stunning group shot. The group presents a new take on the classic piano/bass/drums trio, providing a strong group identity that is still flexible enough to provide superior support for soloists. Originally released in 1997.
