Maureen Kennedy - Out of the Shadows [CD]

This is Toronto-based veteran jazz vocalist Maureen Kennedy's second CD. With her first CD "This Is Always" (BSM 210), she has found new fans among jazz vocal collectors and jazz DJ's as far away as South Africa and Japan. She stands solidly in the tradition of legendary vocalists like Carmen McRae, Chris Connor, Jeri Southern, and Teddi King, but she is not an imitator. Maureen carefully selected lesser known gems and standards (like Yesterdays, I'm Just A Lucky So-and-So, and Ghost Of A Chance With You) that haven been sung or recorded by other jazz vocalists less frequently in the past 25 years. She is accompanied by four of Toronto's topflight jazz musicians. Solos by guitarist Reg Schwegger and saxophonist Mike Murley are amply featured throughout the album.
