He started playing guitar in junior high school and became interested in bands. After playing in a US military camp band, he became one of Japan's leading session guitarists. He has participated in the works of many artists, including Yumi Matsutoya, Seiko Matsuda, Masashi Sada, Akina Nakamori, and Kyoko Koizumi. He has recorded over 10,000 songs. Starting with his first album as leader, Ryuumu Sand, in 1978, he released 24 solo albums. In 1979, he formed the band PARACHUTE, which gained popularity.
