One of America's premier soul and R&B groups, The Main Ingredient are best known for their massive hit, "Everybody Plays the Fool." When former lead singer Donald McPherson died unexpectedly in 1971 from a bout with leukemia, the stunned group carried on with Cuba Gooding Sr. (father of the popular film star Cuba Gooding Jr..) taking over as lead vocalist. It was with Gooding that the group scored their biggest hit with "Everybody Plays the Fool" in 1972. Here Gooding and the group perform their 1970 hit "I'm So Proud," this time with Gooding taking the lead. Also included is an exclusive bonus instrumental version.
