This release celebrates the American pianist Leon Fleisher's 85th birthday. This 1960 live recording of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.1, conducted by Andre Cluytens, is wonderfully sprung and full of stylish brio. Mozart's K414 is a rarity in Fleisher's discography; he did not record it until 2008. This 1957 live perfomance is direct with a full-bodied singing tone and pinpointed responsiveness. Unissued recordings; beautifully recorded by WDR. One of the few examples of Fleisher caught live.
