King Diamond peaked early in his career as a solo artist, but oh what a peak it was. 1988's Them is King Diamond's first of two consecutive concept albums (1989's Conspiracy serving as the conclusion of the story) where the enigmatic vocalist inserts himself among the story's characters, which also includes his mother, little sister, a haunted house, and a grandmother who has returned from a long stay at the insane asylum. Andy LaRocque delivers distinctive, semi-thrash riffs, majestic harmonies, and searing, inventive solo passages to standout moments.
