GarciaLive Volume 19 documents one of the most emotionally charged nights in Jerry Garcia Band history — his triumphant return to the stage on Halloween, October 31, 1992, at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, just three months after a health crisis so severe it forced the cancellation of an entire Grateful Dead tour. Slimmed down and in great spirits, Garcia took the stage to 17,000 roaring fans, and the setlist reflects the significance of the moment. Mastered from John Cutler's original soundboard recordings.
Featuring Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Melvin Seals on keyboards, John Kahn on bass, David Kemper on drums, and Gloria Jones and Jaclyn LaBranch on backing vocals — what Melvin Seals himself dubbed "the magic band." A poignant "The Maker" opens the emotional core of the evening; "Shining Star" stuns with its lush harmonies to open Set Two; and the night closes with a rousing Halloween encore of "Werewolves of London." The package includes liner notes and previously unpublished photos from the festivities, which included a costume contest judged by Ken Kesey.
