Jerry Garcia Band – GarciaLive Vol. 1: March 1st, 1980 Capitol Theatre (3–CD) Music CD

The debut release from the GarciaLive archival series, recorded at the historic Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey on March 1, 1980. The Jerry Garcia Band performed an early and a late show on this evening — both captured on 24-track tape for broadcast on New York radio station WNEW — with Garcia on guitar and vocals, John Kahn on bass, Ozzie Ahlers on keyboards, and Johnny de Foncesca on drums.

The early show is a crisp, start-to-finish showcase of the JGB at their most focused, moving through "Sugaree," "Catfish John," "How Sweet It Is," and "Simple Twist of Fate" before closing with a thunderous "Deal." The late show brings its own highlights — a rollicking "That's What Love Will Make You Do," "The Harder They Come," and two special appearances by longtime Garcia collaborator Robert Hunter on "Tiger Rose" and "Promontory Rider," before a top-flight "Dear Prudence" closes out the night. Liner notes by David Gans.
