Blessed with a mighty five-octave vocal range combined with an innate aptitude for improvisation, Jean Carne has long been recognized as one of the finest singers of our time - first discovered in the jazz world as something quite unique, and then becoming one of the nation's most gifted R&B performers. With a consistent string of hits that stretch from the beginning of her career in the early 1970s throughout the 1990s, including a bona fide #1 R&B hit in 1986 with "Closer Than Close," Carne has gained a loyal following with fans in all corners of the globe. Closely associated with the Philly Soul sound since her past association with Gamble & Huff's Philly International label, Jean has been long regarded as the most sophisticated voice of the genre. Over the years, Carne has worked with some of the most important soul and jazz artists, producers and songwriters including Dizzy Gillespie, Norman Connors, The Temptations, Glenn Jones, and Phyllis Hyman, to name a few. Her talent and creativity have never ebbed, consistently putting out quality albums over the past forty years - her distinctive voice still in top form. For the last several years Jean has been working with the iconic soul producer Butch Ingram on a variety of projects, releasing critically acclaimed singles as well as full-length albums. Presented here is the Ingram penned "Give It Up," the standout title track from her critically acclaimed album of the same name which features the fantastic sax work of Don "Juan" Ward.
