Just after Jefferson Airplane called it quits for the first time (later to re-emerge as Jefferson Starship), Hot Tuna offered some relief for longtime fans of the San Francisco hippie rockers, as ex-Airplane members Jorma Kaukonen (guitar/vocals) and Jack Casady (bass) issued their fourth release, 1974's PHOSPHORESCENT RAT. While many figured most Airplane fans would focus their attention on the Tuna after J.A.'s breakup, this didn't turn out to be the case, as sales- and chartwise PHOSPHORESCENT RAT didn't perform as well as their previous releases had. Which is surprising, since it contains several inspired psychedelic/folk/rock highlights, such as "I See the Light," "Corners Without Exits," and the album closing "Sally Where'd You Get Your Liquor From."
