Herbie Fields was a New York-based multi-instrumentalist who played clarinet and alto and tenor saxophone. In the early 1940's he played with some of the best jazz musicians in the world, such as Don Byas, Coleman Hawkins and Dexter Gordon, to name a few. While working a four-week engagement at the Preview Lounge in Chicago in the spring of 1953, he recorded the classic sides presented here. Joining Fields, who played alto, tenor and baritone sax on the recordings are: Jimmy Nottingham (trumpet), Joe Black (piano) and Rudy Cafaro (electric guitar). The bassist, drummer and trombonist remain unidentified. All selections newly remastered.
