When listening to the music and poems in this delightfully curated collection, two ideas seem to run through the songs, sleep, dreaming and nostalgia. These ideas are portrayed in different styles and languages exquisitely narrated by Jessica Rivera and flawlessly accompanied by Mark Carver. The collection travels between Spain and Latin America and includes the song cycle Marinero en Tierra by Rodolfo Halffter (Spain-Mexico), Combat del somni by Frederic Mompou (Catalonia), Cinco canciones de niños by Silvestre Revueltas (Mexico), Dos canciones mexicanas by Manuel M. Ponce (Mexico), Por el valle de rosas by Miguel Bernal Jimenez (Mexico), Tres canciones sobre poemas de Lorca by Salvador Moreno (Mexico), Arrullo by Blas Galindo (Mexico), Las horas de una estancia by Alberto Ginastera (Argentina) y Dos canciones by Felix Mata (Costa Rica)The combined musical intelligence and technical proficiency of Jessica and Mark make of these performances a new reference for each and everyone of the works in this collection. This recording will reveal the treasure that is this repertoire to a new generation of music lovers, at a historical moment when there is a renewed global interest for the culture of Spain and Latin America.
