Singer Gunnel Mauritzson, considered one of the foremost folksingers in Sweden, has her musical roots in the folk music from her native Baltic island of Gotland. She is also a composer of new songs and tunes, often built upon traditional folk music styles, injecting new music and lyric elements as the music moves across the genres. These qualities form the starting point for her collaborative Gotland Jazz Operation Project, V. 1, with jazz pianist Jean-Simon Maurin largely contributing music and Ms. Mauritzson lyrics, for the quartet (Yasuhito Mori, bass; Anders Hagberg, saxophone, flute).
