Doug Webb brought together Alan Broadbent, Putter Smith and Paul Kreibich to record this set at Nolan Shaheed's studio in Pasadena, CA. This was a rare opportunity to record Alan Broadbent playing a set of all improvised music on the West Coast in a small group. The music chosen had to be standards that all the participants knew well. It was also understood that Alan's wonderful approach to ballads had to be a focal point. Doug also wanted to get a chance to play more lyrically than on previous recordings. The result is this engrossing set of standards that effectively sets the standard of good taste and musicality for any quartet session.
