Dorian DeVins has been referred to as 'the coolest of the cool school' and a 'sultry swinger.' On her debut CD, she is joined by five stellar musicians (Richie Vitale - trumpet & flugelhorn, Peter Brainin - saxes & flute, Lou Rainone - piano, Karl Kaminski - bass, Steve Johns - drums), and each is given the opportunity to spread out and play, so that Devins' concept of an 'instrumental' vocal album is realized. Five of the tunes on the CD include original lyrics by Devins: three by Lee Morgan, one by Kenny Dorham, and one by Wayne Shorter (who granted Devins a co-write credit). Arrangements by Dorian DeVins and Lou Rainone round out an album described by jazz trumpet great Jack Walrath as 'a recording that contains the best of jazz singing and playing in one overall, successfully realized and integrated whole.
