Recorded at Amigo Studios in North Hollywood with producer Ted Templeman, The Captain and Me captured a band hitting its stride with a twin-guitar attack and rhythmic drive that would define West Coast rock for years to come. Tom Johnston's bluesy swagger on "China Grove" and "Long Train Runnin'" made both songs instant radio staples in 1973, while the album's deeper cuts revealed a band equally comfortable with acoustic ease as with throttling grooves.
The Album That Made The Doobie Brothers Superstars: Smartly Balanced Between Edgy Rock and Rustic Balladry, The Captain and Me Features the Timeless Hits 'China Grove' and 'Long Train Runnin'Experience the 1973 Record in Definitive Sound on Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP Set: Numbered-Edition Reissue Elevates Ted Templeman's Standout ProductionTaking off on the commercial success of Toulouse Street, The Captain and Me propelled The Doobie Brothers to superstar status. Having spent an entire year on the charts after it's March 1973 release, it features one classic cut after another. Not to mention an even-keeled balance between gritty rock fare and mellow balladry that showcases the group's chemistry and songwriting prowess. By keeping their craft deceptively simple and thoroughly enjoyable, The Doobie Brothers understand music is supposed to be fun - and that it needs to groove. And groove this double-platinum record does without fail.Sourced from the original analog master tapes, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing, and housed in a Stoughton gatefold jacket, Mobile Fidelity's numbered-edition 180g 45RPM 2LP presents The Captain and Me in definitive sound. Facets that help make the album so welcoming - voices that naturally rise and fall, notes that properly carry and decay, bass lines you can trace, well-placed percussive accents, warm tones, defined separation between the musicians - come across with involving presence, openness, and realism. You'd likely never guess The Doobie Brothers created The Captain and Me under the pressures associated with a quick turnaround time and demands for a set that would prove it's prior LP wasn't a fluke. To say they accomplished that mission is a vast understatement.1/4' / 15 IPS Dolby A analog master to DSD 256 to analog console to latheNumbered 180g 45RPM Vinyl 2LPLIMITED SPECIAL EDITIONTrack ListSide One:Natural ThingLong Train Runnin'China GroveSide Two:Dark Eyed Cajun WomanClear as the Driven SnowSide Three:Without YouSouth City Midnight LadySide Four:Evil WomanBusted Down Around O'Connelly CornersUkiahThe Captain and Me
