Born in Giessen, the son of a state rabbi, Hermann Levi was the Royal General Music Director in Munich for over 20 years. The friend and confidante of Brahms and Clara Schumann turned more and more to Richard Wagner - and in 1882 conducted the World premiere of the "Bühnenweihfestspiel" Parsifal in Bayreuth. 2019 was the 180th anniversary of Hermann Levi's birthday - high time for the first recording of his songs! Bass-Baritone Rene Perler and pianist Edward Rushton are the chosen interpreters of this music. Perler is the perfect choice; he writes of his approach to his art: "Together with the audience, I want to go on a journey again and again, on the path, the search for new (soul) land. Away from the now-and-here-time, towards dreams, premonitions, opposite worlds. Break in, overcome, fly over the walls around us. Ventilate masks, remove them. Show vulnerability, make vulnerable. Time out. Do not deliver finished products, but invite you to travel."
