In Bob Knight: The Colossus of Basketball, we look back on the life and career of a monumental figure in college hoops, revealing his impact on generations of athletes.
Basketball fans who have ever marveled at a well-executed motion offense or circled Indiana University or Texas Tech to go deep on a March Madness bracket have Bob Knight to thank. In 29 seasons, from 1971 to 2000, he coached the Hoosiers to three national championships and 11 Big Ten championships, all without ever having a losing record. He then turned the flagging Red Raiders into a consistent high performer during his tenure there from 2001 to 2008. Beyond those campuses in Bloomington and Lubbock, Knight led a USA Basketball team that included Michael Jordan to a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics.
But Knight was as controversial as he was brilliant, his volatility leading to loud arguments in its mildest form to chair-throwing and job termination in its worst. Yet in the years up to his death on Nov. 1, 2023, Knight’s game acumen and philosophies have been distilled into the coaching styles of many of his disciples, including current Indiana men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson.
