Bassist Alec Dankworth utilizes a trio format and without a percussionist. Here, the twice voted British Jazz bassist of the year is joined by the evocative saxophone of Julian Arguelles and guitarist Phil Robson. His parents - saxophonist John Dankworth and singer Cleo Laine, are the closest thing to jazz royalty. Given such a pedigree, it's hardly a surprise that Dankworth ended up following some leviathan musical footsteps. One of Dankworth's most influential encounters was with Abdullah Ibrahim, whose composition 'Msunduza,' features on this album. Also included is Dankworth's take on Bobby Troup's 'The Meaning of the Blues' and Brubeck's 'The Duke.'
