ABOUT THE BOOK AND AUTHOR

A Memoir of Jane Austen is a biography of English novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817) written by her nephew James Edward Austen-Leigh (1798-1874). It was published in 1871.

Jane Austen was the author of six well known novels including Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815), Northanger Abbey (1818) and Persuasion (1818). She also wrote Lady Susan (1871) and Love and Freindship and other Early Works (1790).

Biographies about Jane Austen written by her family members include A Memoir of Jane Austen (1871) and Jane Austen, Her Life and Letters: A Family Record (1913). Many of her letters are included in a compilation in The Letters of Jane Austen (1892).
